Church Leadership Positions

Each year we have a nominating committee that meets for the purpose of selecting leaders that serve our church.  There are certain requirements that need to be met for people to fill these spots.  Once candidates are selected by the nominating committee they go before the church for a final vote.  If you are interested, or feel called to serve as an Elder, Deacon, or Deaconess, please call the church office.

Following is a brief description of what each of these positions entail:

Elder - An elder at FCC leads the Church as a shepherd, believes in the effectiveness of prayer, directs the affairs of the Church, holds firmly to the Word of God, and gives instruction in sound doctrine.  The responsibilities of elders include:

  • Counsel and prayer as needed following worship services with those who desire physical, emotional, and spiritual healing
  • Lead Sunday morning shut-in communion teams as scheduled
  • Serve, if elected, to the General Board for specified term of office.  Oversee assigned area of organizational department or ministry
  • Actively involved in other ministries within the Church

Deacon - A deacon must see both himself and his tasks as vital to the life and health of the church.  It was Jesus who said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the ’deacon’ of all” (Mark 9:35).  Responsibilities of a deacon include, but are not limited to:

  • Shut-in communion along with an elder
  • Sanctuary set-up and re-set
  • Being a service leader

Deaconess - God’s love shines through us as we are in His service.  As a deaconess, you will have the opportunity to choose, under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the area of ministry, in which you feel called to serve during your term.  The following is a brief description of each ministry:

  • Family Care - Serving families who are experiencing family members being hospitalized or recovering from surgeries, serious illnesses or child birth. We serve by providing dinner meals for a period of time, in order to make these times a little easier.
  • Funeral Care - Focus on families who have suffered loss, and provide a meal for funeral or memorial receptions.
  • Luv & Hugs – Pray for the needs of the church body.  This is a weekly ministry where deaconesses are assigned certain prayer requests from the accumulated communication cards which are submitted every Sunday.
  • Communion - Every Deaconess is expected to participate in the preparation and re-set and/or clean up of communion.
  • Special Events - Assisting with Membership classes, facilitating baptisms and the 50th Anniversery celebration
  • Nursery Care - Help with birth - 23 month old children in the nursery on Sunday mornings and for Women's Bible Studies

Greeter Ministry

One of the best things we do here at FCC is make people feel welcome.  Our Greeter Ministry leads the way in making that happen.  The only requirement is a warm smile and a friendly handshake.  If you are interested in becoming a part of the Greeter Team, stop by the Welcome Table on Sunday mornings and complete a communication card telling us so.
