Hands of Mercy Mission Trip
to Mexico - March 30-April 1
A group from FCC is planning on building a loft house near a location in Esenada, Mexico. We're doing this with Hands of Mercy, whose mission is to strengthen the Body of Christ by making and influencing disciples while mobilizing families and individuals to love others in tangible ways in Mexico and around the world.
We will have two days where we pre-cut and assemble the loft house and load it onto a trailer which takes place on March 23-24. Then on Friday, March 30th we pull the trailer down to Ensenada, assemble the house on March 31st and then return home on April 1. Engagement story in our community:
Angel Tree - December, 2011
Christmas is a busy time, especially when you have 75 children. For the FCC family, setting up a Christmas tree large enough to place all those gifts is not a problem. They find an especially huge tree each year, but the gifts never make it under the tree. The 75 children are Angel Tree Children. They live each day with the knowledge and shame of a parent in prison. It is not uncommon that both parents are in prison at the same time. Whatever the situation, it has been a tradition of FCC for many years to bless children of prisoners living in the Santa Maria community with one or two gifts from their parent.
Right now, an estimated 1.7 million children in the nation have a mom or dad in prison. The number is huge—but so is the opportunity. Through Angel Tree, a ministry of FCC, we organize volunteers to give children in our community Christmas gifts on behalf of their incarcerated parents.
FCC volunteers purchase, wrap, and returns the gift(s) to the church. After a time of fun organizing, the gifts are placed into family bags. The Christmas gifts are hand delivered to their home. Each volunteer will also give the gift of Love to the family, a message of salvation that Jesus Christ loves them very much. Through Angel Tree, everyone benefits—the prisoner feels the dignity of doing something personal for his or her child, and the children experience the joy of knowing that The city of Santa Maria had over 400 children hoping to receive a gift. We were able to serve 75 local children or 38 families.
Thank you to the many dedicated volunteers who participated in this ministry.
